Piglet: Mommy, are we in the car?
Me: Uh, yes?
Piglet: Why?
Me: So we can get to the store?
Piglet: Why?
Me: For food. We need food.
[Silence. Pondering. I begin mentally preparing my answer as to why humans need food for survival.]
Pigpen: Dump truck! Dump truck! Dump truck!
Piglet: Yes, Pigpen, those are dump trucks.
Pigpen: Why?
Piglet: Because they are!
Pigpen: Why?
Piglet: Pigpen, stop saying why. Mommy, Pigpen won't stop saying why!
Me: Does that bother you?
Piglet: Yes! It's making my ears tired!
Me: Hmmm. I bet that's annoying.
Pigpen: School bus! Bus! Bus! Bus!
Piglet: Yes, Pigpen, that's a school bus. [sighs with weight of world]
Pigpen: Why?
Piglet: Because they just ARE Pigpen! Stop saying why!
Me: It's pretty annoying when people say why all the time, isn't it?
Piglet: YES.
[Long blissful pause]
Piglet: Mommy, why is it annoying when people say why?
Me: .........
