One Thousand??

View Image

I just happened to notice that today marks my 1,000th post! Who knew when I started this little blog in 2004 that it would hang on through my teaching career, two pregnancies, a move, and the always-refreshing world of parenting? We've tracked Gus through the years, gotten way too much information about my various, unlikely injuries, and had very deep, frank talks about all things poop.

Six and a half years ago, there were a bunch of us blogging about, but slowly many have dropped off. People have asked me why I keep doing it when everyone else has moved on to Facebook and Twitter. The main reason is that I have the worst memory known to mankind. While my mother can remember things from when she was two years old, I can't remember things from last month. I can go back and read through, say, March of 2006 on my blog and it reads like someone else's life! It's fantastic. I need to have the whole thing printed up so that I have it as a reference. I've used this blog to figure out dates injuries occurred for insurance purposes, settle arguments, track car purchases, look back to see when a certain trip took place....all very handy for a memory-impaired gal like myself!

My favorite part of the blog is that I have made friends. Now, Mr. Pigs laughs when I mention a certain friend and he'll say, "Now, who is that?" I'll casually tell him where they live and that, oh, I haven't really met them, per se, but I know them better than some friends who live next door. Back when blogs first got big, I met Jen, Carrie, girlfiend, Nicole, and MommyProf. There have been more picked up along the way, including people from my real life who jumped on board and have held their own.

Getting too rambly now. Blogging is cathartic. Writing is good for me and helps me practice. Having a record of my days is really important to me, especially now that I have two kids, one dog, and no brain. Someday, I want to look back and remember all the cute, embarrassing, and questionable things they have done and that baby book is just not going to happen.

So, help me celebrate the ONE THOUSAND POSTS I have written. Tell me who you are and how long you've read. Where you live and why you're here. Your social security number and date of birth. Just kidding. But I do want to know you're there.

High five!

I'm here! I've been reading your blog since... 2006, I guess. When I graduated from college and started teaching 4th grade. I even emailed you for advice once - you were very helpful, from what I recall (I, too, have a terrible memory). I'm no longer teaching and now have two kids of my own (also boys, younger than yours though), so I have loved keeping up with you.

I started reading your blog long ago...2004?  2005?  2006?  I don't remember, I seem to have a memory like yours.  That was when I had my own blog (Random Notions and Stories of Teaching), then I moved (Lawn Mower Queen), and moved again to my latest blog (Diary of a Soon-to-Be Former Fat Girl).

We have a beagle too, so I love hearing Gus stories.  :)

You know I've been here since the beginning.  I always appreciate how you take the banal that I am also going through (teaching, pregnancy, parenthood), and make it hysterical.

High five!  Congrats on 1000!  You know I'm still here, hanging on to my blog and my few bloggy friends.  I love your writing and hope you keep it up.

Hi! I've been reading since 2006! My friend Tina introduced me to your blog, and Tina is a friend of "Eddie". You are quite the storyteller and I always look forward to a good laugh when I stop by to read your latest post. Keep them coming!

Congrats on 1000 posts!  I've been reading since circa 2006?  Back when people used to blog (including me).  I was reading a friend's bog and decided to click on her blog roll, and then I clicked on that person's blog roll and lo and behold Pigs!

Back when I first started reading I was a graduate student in southern California needing to feel like there were people out there besides the lab I spent 100 hours a week in.  Now I'm married and live in San Francisco.  Will have kids someday... but currently I love reading, watching trashy tv and grocery store trips by myself too much to give that up quite yet.

So basically I picture myself as you circa 2004.  I also recommended Gap Body low rise hipsters so now I feel like we have a bond even though you have no idea who I am and we've never met.  Yay internet!

since 2007.  Found my way here from Aims (my niece).  I get SO SAD when you go on hiatus!  You should post reruns.

I started blogging mid-2006 and found you thru KatieLady so I'm guessing I've been around here since early 2006?  I'm in the Houston area and I read because you're witty.  :)   Also, blogs are excellent ways to kick off my workday.

I came to your blog through cousin Lucy's mama when we used to work together, and then I got to meet you at her wedding when I was thisclose to popping out my own baby. So I guess it has been about 4 years? Anyway, I read your blog because you are immensely entertaining and you say the things about parenthood and poop and potty-humor-based-relationships that I wish I could be as witty about. Your writing has made me laugh to the point of crying on more than one occasion.

Plus, I like people who are realistic about poop and about family and about addictive frugality and are still able to keep their sense of humor through it all. I love the blog and am so glad you haven't succumbed to limited your witty and snarky insights to 40 characters or fewer. Keep up the good work!! (Especially the poop stuph!)

Did I mention I

I found your blog through another friend who apparently didn't know you in person either, and I'm not sure how she found you, but oh well. I've been checking since sometime around the time Piglet was born because I remember the first posts I read had pictures of him as a wee tiny baby. Your blog always makes me laugh, especially now that I have two boys of my own... and my brain is MIA, too.

I DO remember you! You were a part of The Firm!

Ha ha! I tried doing flashback Fridays one time, and it was met with much criticism. Alas.

Anyone who leads me to wedgie-free underwear is a friend in my book!

And I still read you everyday. Erik gives me hope for Piglet. Or at least makes me feel better. Ha!

I didn't know you changed again! Send me new link!

High five!  Chest bump!  Butt slap!  Fist bump!  WTG on 1000 posts!  WOO HOO!!!

No idea when I started reading your blog, but I think from the beginning because you USED to just email me school stories that you'd written, before you blogged about them.  Think i have a few on my hard drive somewhere.  We have actually met (Thank you Mr. Pigs!), and I hate that you weren't here when I moved back to Texas, and much closer to your old 'hood.

Hello!  I started reading you when we were both teachers, which seems like a loooong time ago for both of us, I'm sure.  I've gradually given up most teacher blogs and I don't read very many mommy blogs -- you are the rare exception!  Your writing and take on your world are funny and thoughtful.  Here's to a 1,000 more!

I'm pretty sure that I've read from the beginning.  You inspired me to start a blog which promptly died within about a year.  I do so love to keep up with your exciting life adventures, even if we only get to see each other in person every few years....   :)

Been keeping up with Pig's Tales for about a year now, I suppose. Lucky for me, I actually MET you before I knew about the blog! You are just as interesting in person (although I am sure you disagree), and I'm so fortunate to know such a witty, comical, and downright "real" woman! Thanks for all the laughs and congrats on the 1,000 posts :)

I'm from Michigan, and I can't remember how I found your blog, but I've been reading since about 2007ish, I think.  I started reading because I teach high school, and enjoyed your stories from the elementary world (and Gus stories.  They're my favorite).  When you quit teaching to be a full time mom, I was bummed, but now that I'm a mom, too, I'm grateful for the stories of mommyhood - I think you've prepared me well for all of the poo that is sure to come my way!  I enjoy your voice as a writer, and am grateful that you've kept blogging long after most folks I know have stopped!

Ummm... I've been reading since we got back in touch in 2006 I think?  Has it really been that long?!  And I'm here because you made me.  :P  j/k, congrats on #1000!  Wish I had your stamina for blogging.  I think it's time to start making serious plans for a blog-based book!

I am going to guess that I might be your reader from the most distant location. That is now that I am in Alaska. I have you to thank for getting me started on my own blog and I have to agree with you that it is quite cathartic. And I SO totally read my old entries and laugh at them as if I am reading about someone elses life. Glad to know I am not the only one doing that!

Glad you made it to 1000. Don't give up before at least 2000. Umkay?

Hi there. I found your site while surfing one day in college ... and now I'm a married third year teacher. Wow, I hadn't realized how long I've been enjoying your cleverly written posts! And I feel slightly guilty for mostly lurking and very rarely (maybe twice?) commenting. Boys run in my husband's family (although DH has been told we're responsible for producing a girl), and I've enjoyed the insights you've shared on raising your own. Thanks for your thoughtful and humorous writing.

I miss your blog. You should come visit!

Oh, the time suck! But we didn't have kids! We had that time to waste! I think that's how we all found each other...

I am the creepiest of creepers and I ran across your blog a few months ago and immediately began reading through your archives.  Right now I'm in August 2006 and loving every minute of your fabulous stories (especially the ones about Gus)!  I am just finishing up my year of student teaching and I have found the appropriate amount of humor and wisdom in your stories.  Write on!

You are officially my favorite creeper! That's awesome.

I found you through your friend Aims.  I don't remember when I started reading -- too many children and not enough brain cells I'm afraid.  I know it was somewhere around the "blue balls" at Target story.  I laughed til I cried.  I'm a teacher who now wrangles my own brood instead of everyone else's and the XY chromsomes outnumber us XX's 2:1 in my house.  I love your stories and I love that my kids aren't the only ones who are "like that."  Oh and I wish I could coupon half as well as you.

I started reading a year or two before you quit teaching. I found you through KauaiMark that used to post on proteacher.com. I forget about your blog for awhile wnntil I see it in my bookmarks. Then, I proceed to spend hours reading through to catch up -- which is so often the case when I'm procrastinating.  You have the best sense of writing and comic timing, which is why I enjoy it so much.  It's a gift to take something boring and make it delightful to read about.

I relate to your frugalness and also feel envious that I dont' have "the gift" to save as much, albeit that I'm every bit as frugal as you.  I have started using retailmenot and Swagbucks, thanks to you. Every time I see the previews for the new show about couponing coming to TLC, I think of you.  Do you use MyPoints and/or Inboxdollars per chance?

I've been reading since the beginning. Since I had (Cousin) Lucy, I've been lax about keeping up. Sometimes when I'm about to send you an email, I think, "I really should check out her blog so I don't ask a question she's already answered." I also confess to calling you less because I can just read your blog, and it's almost like talking to you. :)  1,000 more posts, please!

Awww, happy 1000!  :-D

I'm still around... I got here through Eddie, who is now one of those who is so over blogging (lame!).  Tell your girl to get it together & bring her ass back to the blog world!

I'm glad you're still around!

I was introduced to your blog by my daughter-in-law, who has you on her blog roll. I've been following since summer 2007.  I was a third grade teacher for 12 years and can sooo relate to your teacher stories.  They have given me some good laughs over the years!  I am a school librarian now, but my job is being eliminated next school year (because, as we all know, librarians have NOTHING to do with education!)  I reared 3 sons, and really enjoy your "mother of boys" tales.  Ah, yes, those stories take me back...  I began blogging in 2007 myself, but haven't been very faithful.  What I really want to write about is education, but I haven't felt free to say much while still employed, lest a coworker come upon my comments. But come June 3, I'M FREE, and let the blogging begin in earnest!  Congrats on your 1000th!  And keep 'em comin'!  You are appreciated!  (Here's my pitiful little blog if you're interested...)  http://nonnismountaindreams.blogspot.com
