Mute

Bad news. It seems that Captain Phlegm and his evil Larynx Lancers have managed a hostile takeover of my voice box. I was all fine and good this morning, making phone calls, teaching class, when...dun, dun, dun! [this is how my students write "scary music" into their stories] So, dun, dun dun! I found myself rendered mute. Mute! Mid-lesson.
This caused great excitement among the fourth grade youth in my class. "She can't talk! She can't talk!"one Einstein stated the obvious for everyone in earshot. "Hey! Mrs. R! Can you hear me?" (waved hand in my face). I opened my mouth to chastise the freak, ahem...sweet darling child, and of course, nothing came out. "She looks like a mime," one uttered reverently, staring. "Hey, Mrs. R...go like this!" He began pressing his hands to the sides of an imaginary box. I gave him my most withering glare and headed for my bell. After a sharp ding to the bell, the kids seemed to understand that I meant business, but remained fascinated by my condition.
It was a long day, but this is the most conversation I've had! It's freeing just to be able to get words out. Ahhhh....I hope the phone doesn't ring. I can't bear not to answer a phone.

Poor you! Isn't that just horrible? I was like that today at one point as well. I had my whistle and the kids did NOT like the sound of me blowing on it.

Kids are freaks these days. I'm off to sink into a NyQuil stupor.

Ginny, you make me laugh every day. You asked me once if I was sure I still wanted to be a teacher. The more I read, the more certain I am. After all, I can't blame my insanity on genetics, can I?

By the way - try Airborne. I worship it.

I'm sorry you have the crud...it's making the rounds at my school too. Hack, hack, sneeze, sneeze..and teachers can't be sick - writing sub plans is such a pain

What the heck is this Airborne stuff? I must have it! Is it a spray? A lotion? A beverage? A lozenge? It only comes recommended by teaching folk, yet I've never heard of it. Somebody spill! Stat! I have health issues pending here.

Try this link for Airborne:
http://www.airbornehealth.com/

I get it at Trader Joes. It's an orange-flavored tablet that you dissolve in water and drink. Tastes OK, but seems to really work when you feel a cold coming on. It's like echinachea was in the '90s ... very popular these days.

Sorry for freaking you out, Ginny ;) I'm glad a fellow blogger stepped up to give you the skinny on Airborne.

By the way, I'm sorry you missed the cinnamon rolls, but one of the other bloggers came by late with some vodka. I've got a bit of that left, if you're interested.

As for "Michele" - she is sort of the playground monitor for the blogosphere. She tells everyone to play nicely, throws a bunch of activities out there, and introduces a new blog for people to visit each day. You should check her out at http://micheleagnew.com/ She would LOVE your blog.

Don't you hate not being able to talk? That's one of the most frustrating things ever! Just be glad you don't have to croak your wedding vows in front of everyone you know!
I don't suppose this gives you permission to show videos in your class now?

Uff, that's horrible. Anyways I would recommend you to go to the doctor instead of autodiagnose yourself as these things can become chronic if they are not well treated. And remember that voice is one of the most important work tools a teacher have.
