July

Okay. Blog background located, sort of. I honestly have no idea where it went or how long it's been gone, as I have been MIA for the last few weeks. It's too much to catch up on, so here's the highlights:

***Disclaimer: There is something tragically wrong with my comma key and my "L" key. I take no responsibility for comma errors, even though it kind of kills me to say that.

First week of July - Piglet's BFF from Texas came to visit us! It was really fun to see the two of them all kind of grown up-ish around each other. Well, not that 3 is grown up, but they were not babies anymore. It was super cute how they took up with each other right away and had a ball together. Now they want to Skype. It weirds me out that preschoolers want to Skype, but whatever....new generation!

Immediately after they left, my pal AMP came to see me from the NYC. I hope I didn't freak her out with my suburban stay at home mom rockin' fun lifestyle or wild animal kingdom children, but it was really fun to see her after NINE YEARS. Seriously, nine years? I don't think I'm old enough to say that I haven't seen someone in nine years. Moving along.

The day after that, we headed to the family beach vacation in NC for a week. Actually, the trip was 10 days once you factor in the stays in SC at the inlaws on both ends. The short version is ten days of tractor/golf cart/Gator/boat riding followed by boogie boards, wave riding, sand digging, fish eating fun. Not a lot of sleep for the short people, who inexplicably wake up at ridiculously early hours on vacations, but fun nonetheless.

And then we came home.

It was when we got home that I realized that preschool doesn't start until September 7th. Regular, big-kid school starts around here on August 9th. DO YOU KNOW HOW FAR AWAY SEPTEMBER 7th IS? It's roughly six weeks. That's six weeks of us. Us at home. At home with our two "free" activities - the pool and the gym. I insist on putting the word free in quotation marks, as they are more in the category of pre-paid. Or "don't have to pay even more for". So, that's what we do. Pool, gym, pool, gym, pool, gym. Occasional playgroup. Pool, gym.

Except this week, Piglet picked up one of those nasty summer colds. One so icky that I couldn't take him to the YMCA playcenter. So we've been almost completely homebound for 3 days now. In the summer. It's been close to 100 degrees and humid for about three weeks now, so playing outside is really not an option unless you want to do it under the cover of night. Right now, we are in the basement for the third day in a row and while singing the Clean Up song, they are actually hammering imaginary nails into the roof of the slide. 'Cause that's a normal thing to do.

Sooooo, that catches us up without a lot of detail. I hope to have more time to post now that we're done traveling, though we do have 3 more waves of company coming up in August. So, all you people who have been bugging me to post? I expect comments. I blog much better when I have active participation and conversation. Hey, speaking of....on my new commenting gig, when I comment back at you, do you get that as an email? Or do you have that option? Or do you even know I'm talking back to you? Just wondering.

Let's hear a little more about your child-free vacation, please.

My background on my new blog suddenly disappeared too.  Very strange.

I love the new background!  I have no clue how this new comment thing works.  I am not inputting my e-mail address anywhere, so how would it know to e-mail me?

An excellent suggestion, Nicole. However, that blissful experience deserves its own post. I'll get on that.

Um, I dunno. Good question. I guess that's what I was wondering is if you did input your email....sooooo you probably won't see this. Hmph. Will research.

Dear Pigs,

I came over from my RSS reader to comment. Sept. 7 seems awfully late - perhaps you can arrange some visitation time with friends?

Sounds like you guys are having the same heat issues we are.  I've never wished a summer away like I have this one.  Nine years is a long time to not see someone.  I think we went, what, 16 years though?  Way too long!

Aw, thanks! I'm touched at the effort. Hope your move is survivable! (Is that a word?)

Hmm. A good point. Surely we can blame our parents for many of those though, right? The internet is our friend!

Oh how I missed your blog over the past few weeks.  Since I have a 5 month old we don't get out a ton during the day so I have been pretty homebound aside from the occasional trip to target and walk in the morning before it gets too blazing so I sympathize.  Sounds like you've had a fun few weeks though!
